Dr. Peter Cripton

Professor

Biography

Peter Cripton's research interests encompass impact biomechanics and injury prevention, specifically focusing on the spine, spinal cord, and hip biomechanics. His work involves helmet and seat belt efficacy, sex differences in occupant protection, and motor vehicle collisions. He has developed the Pivot™ helmet aimed at preventing spinal cord injuries during sports-related head impacts. Cripton's research also targets the prevention of hip fractures and cervical spine injuries, particularly in automotive rollovers, mountain biking, and diving scenarios. His team is engaged in creating improved mechanical surrogates for injury experiments, using advanced MRI imaging techniques to assess seat belt efficacy.
