Maroie Barkati is a radiation oncologist at the Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM) and an associate professor at the Université de Montréal. After completing her medical training and postdoctoral studies at the Université de Montréal, she undertook a subspecialty in gynecological and prostate brachytherapy at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne, Australia in 2010. She has been practicing at CHUM since 2010, specializing in the treatment of prostate cancer and gynecological cancers using cutting-edge techniques such as intensity-modulated radiation therapy and brachytherapy. Dr. Barkati co-founded a high-dose rate prostate brachytherapy program guided by ultrasound at CHUM and has trained several colleagues in this technique. She actively participates in clinical research across various international research groups and has been a local principal investigator for several studies on prostate cancer. Additionally, she is a member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, the Quebec Urological Oncology Radiation Group, and the International Gynecologic Cancer Society. At the Université de Montréal, she serves on the admission and program committee for radiation oncology. Since 2015, she has acted as an expert physician in brachytherapy on various missions in Africa for the International Atomic Energy Agency.
