Biography

Melanie Martin is a renowned Professor and Co-Director at the University of Winnipeg's Brain Imaging and Metabolic Research. With a Ph.D. from Yale University obtained in 2000, she specializes in developing advanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) techniques and high-resolution multi-contrast methods to understand brain structure. Her collaborative research includes pioneering simultaneous positron emission tomography (PET)/MRI methodologies in partnership with Cubresa, Inc., and is working on innovative intraoperative MRI systems with SCHI SCHERI. Her extensive body of work includes investigating the microstructure properties of human brain tissue and quantifying early white matter damage in cuprizone mouse models using sophisticated MRI techniques. Martin has also been actively engaged in teaching, with courses such as Medical Imaging, and has presented keynotes and invited talks at various esteemed institutions. Her research interests encompass MRI technology advancements, brain disease understanding, and neuroinflammation, contributing significantly to the fields of medical imaging and neuroscience.
