Biography

Stephen Sau-Shing Cheung is a Professor in the Department of Kinesiology at Brock University and a Senior Research Fellow. His research focuses on environmental ergonomics, investigating the effects of environmental stressors such as heat, cold, air, water, hydration, and altitude on human physiology and performance. He has collaborated with various partners, including military, firefighters, miners, search and rescue teams, and elite athletes, to improve survival models and develop innovative clothing and equipment. Additionally, he has contributed to the advancement of hydration and heat adaptation policies. Cheung is passionate about sport science and cycling, having competed in road racing, mountain biking, and cyclocross since 1986. He is actively involved in the popularization of science, serving as the Sport Science & Training Editor for PezCyclingNews.com since 2002, co-authoring the book "Cutting-Edge Cycling" (2012), and co-editing "Cycling Science" (2017). Cheung is also the Chief Sport Scientist for the Baron Biosystems training software, Xert. In his leisure time, he enjoys snowboarding and climbing, reflecting his adventurous spirit in sports.
