The Center for the Study of Language and Information (CSLI) served as a hub for Stanford faculty and students pursuing research in computational, logical, and stochastic modeling of cognitive functions and processes. Founded in 1983, CSLI aimed to facilitate collaborations among researchers and leverage Stanford’s strengths in cognitive sciences. It brought together researchers from various departments such as Linguistics, Philosophy, Computer Science, Communication, Education, and the interdepartmental Symbolic Systems Program. Although CSLI concluded operations in 2025, it contributed significantly to the body of research in cognitive sciences and related fields.
The Computer Science department emphasizes research potential. GRE General is currently optional but recommended for some tracks.
