Alexandra holds a BA in English from the University of British Columbia, an MA in Linguistics from Memorial University of Newfoundland, and a PhD in Linguistics from the University of Toronto. She held an academic position at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand before joining the University of Victoria (UVic) in 2010, and became a professor in 2018. Alexandra is currently involved in active teaching and research programs and facilitates UVic’s research services, internal grants, human research ethics, knowledge mobilization, and research impact. She has general oversight of SSHRC-related programs and acts as a liaison to faculties such as Business, Education, Fine Arts, Graduate Studies, Humanities, Law, and Social Sciences. Alexandra has been an advocate for research at UVic, which has led to a significant increase in research activity and recognition for the faculty. She represents UVic externally in relation to SSHRC matters and has contributed broadly to service as vice-chair and chair of the Human Research Ethics Board and chair of the Senate Committee on Learning and Teaching. Additionally, she is a valued member of various institutional committees, including the President’s Advisory Committee on External Awards and Honors.
