Carl Blais is a full professor in the Department of Mining, Metallurgy and Materials Engineering at Université Laval. His research activities primarily focus on physical metallurgy, particularly on the development, elaboration, and use of metal powders. His work centers on the characterization of process-microstructure-properties relationships. He is also the coordinator of the Powder Metallurgy Laboratory at Université Laval and serves as an associate editor for the Canadian Metallurgical Quarterly. In addition, he is involved with editorial boards for international journals, including the International Journal of Powder Metallurgy and Powder Metallurgy.
