Dr. Sheila O’Keefe-McCarthy is an Associate Professor in the Department of Nursing at Brock University. She is a registered nurse and a recognized expert in adult cardiovascular critical care, conducting significant research in cardio/vascular pain science. Her research program emphasizes cardiac health, particularly focusing on the heart health of women and men through gendered approaches in symptom management and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. Utilizing both qualitative and quantitative methodologies, Dr. O’Keefe-McCarthy develops knowledge mobilization strategies that incorporate arts-based forms for interpretation and dissemination. Her current research includes patient-focused studies on cardiovascular health, education for patients and healthcare providers, and creating awareness for improved prevention and treatment. Her expertise encompasses acute coronary syndrome, anxiety, cardiac pain assessment, self-management of cardiac symptoms, and psychometric tool development. Dr. O’Keefe-McCarthy is affiliated with several notable institutions including the Jack Nora Walker Canadian Institute for Lifespan Development Research Centre and has served as Adjunct Professor at Trent University.
