Ed Knorr is an Associate Professor Emeritus in the Department of Computer Science at the University of British Columbia (UBC). He earned a Bachelor of Mathematics from the University of Waterloo in 1983 and a Master of Science from UBC in 1995. He completed his Ph.D. at UBC in 2002. His extensive work experience includes roles as a Systems Programmer at Amoco Canada Petroleum and a Data Management Consultant at Westech Information Systems. Knorr has held various academic positions at UBC, serving as an Instructor and Sessional Lecturer before advancing to Senior Instructor and finally Associate Professor. His research interests encompass data mining, particularly outlier detection and robust statistics, examining significant deviations in large datasets. He also has a keen focus on research in computer science education through evidence-based practices. As part of the Carl Wieman Science Education Initiative, he contributed to enhancing teaching methods in science education. His courses include advanced and introductory topics in databases and algorithms.
