Biography

Satya Prakash is a Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at McGill University. His research primarily focuses on innovative areas including artificial cells, microencapsulation, cell therapy, tissue engineering, nanomedicine, regenerative medicine, biomaterials, and drug delivery systems. His team is dedicated to developing new medical treatment strategies, particularly novel cell drug-based therapies. Current investigations include cholesterol-lowering formulations and therapeutic approaches for fatty liver diseases, neurodegenerative disorders, inflammatory bowel diseases, and wound healing, with formulations targeting colon and breast cancers. Additionally, his research group is exploring the design and mechanisms behind artificial organ substitutes such as artificial kidneys, livers, and skin. The team has significantly contributed to advancements in bioengineered and controlled-release delivery systems, with a focus on creating artificial cell microcapsules designed to encapsulate a variety of biological materials, including mammalian and bacterial cells. The engineered formulations and devices developed by his research are applied in numerous fields within biomedicine and industry, targeting clinical applications.
