Biography

Susan O'Donnell is an Adjunct Professor at the University of New Brunswick (UNB) in the Department of Sociology, with a focus on technology adoption in rural and remote communities. She has a 25-year research career that includes work in Ireland and the European Union. Since returning to Canada in 2004, she has been associated with the National Research Council Canada (NRC) as a Senior Research Officer and has continued her research career at UNB. O'Donnell has supervised and taught research skills to numerous graduate students and has collaborated with community partners in Canada, Ireland, and the EU, leading to over 50 peer-reviewed publications on topics like community development and telehealth. Her research interests encompass socio-economic aspects of energy technologies, climate crises, and online communications, and she has published articles in various notable platforms. She served as the vice-chair of the NRC Research Ethics Board and held a leadership role with the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada, advocating for the scientific integrity of federal researchers. O'Donnell is currently involved in the RAVEN (Rural Action Voices Environment) project, working with communities to amplify the voices of environmental activists in New Brunswick.
