Professor Line Lapointe is a plant ecophysiologist specializing in spring geophytes. Her laboratory's research focuses on mechanisms controlling resource allocation patterns as well as cold adaptation in these species. This work includes studies on the annual carbon balance in perennial species, source-sink relationships, their effects on growth rates, and the mechanisms regulating leaf longevity. She has also investigated understorey herbaceous plants in a sugar maple forest, particularly the impact of overabundant white-tailed deer and climate change on their growth and reproduction. Some of these species have commercial potential, and projects exploring cultivation under forest cover (agroforestry) are also undertaken.
