Richard DeMont is a Professor in the Department of Health, Kinesiology at Concordia University. He holds a PhD from the University of Pittsburgh and has completed MSc at Indiana State University, as well as a Diploma in Sport Injury Management from Sheridan College and a BSc from St. Francis Xavier University. DeMont is a certified member of the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association as an Athletic Therapist and also holds Board Certification from the National Athletic Trainer's Association. His research interests focus on the neuromuscular system, particularly how movement competence relates to injury prevention and rehabilitation. He has studied the role of muscle activation in dynamic joint stability and how cognitive distraction affects neuromuscular control. Additionally, he is interested in the relationship between children’s physical skill development and movement competence, and how these can inform injury prevention strategies. Professor DeMont has authored several publications on topics such as muscle activation during divided attention tasks, the influence of support conditions on back support for occupants, and sex differences in muscle pre-activation.
