Biography

Jean-Etienne de Bettignies is a Professor of Strategic Management in the Department of Management at the University of Toronto Scarborough, with a cross-appointment in the Strategic Management area of the Rotman School of Management. His research focuses on contract theory, competitive strategy, non-market strategy, entrepreneurship and innovation, organizational economics, and industrial organization. His work has been published in prestigious academic journals including the Journal of Labor Economics, Management Science, Journal of Law, Economics and Organization, Journal of Industrial Economics, Journal of Economics and Management Strategy, and the International Journal of Industrial Organization. Jean received his PhD and MBA from the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago in 2001. He also holds a BSc in Economics from the London School of Economics and a Master's in Economics from the Université Catholique de Louvain. Prior to joining the University of Toronto, he was a Distinguished Professor of Business Economics at the Smith School of Business at Queen's University, where he received the Research Excellence Award in 2014 and the Full-Time MBA Teaching Excellence Award in 2016.
