Dr. Katrien De Bock

Professor

Biography

Katrien De Bock, born in Belgium in 1980, is a Belgian citizen and a Full Professor in the Department of Health Sciences and Technology at ETH Zurich. She received her Master in Rehabilitation Sciences in 2002 and completed her PhD at the Research Center for Exercise Health at the University of Leuven in Belgium between October 2002 and September 2007, focusing on exercise physiology, metabolic plasticity, and muscle response in a fasted state. Following her PhD, she underwent postdoctoral training at the Vesalius Research Center, Flemish Interuniversity Institute of Biotechnology (VIB) at the University of Leuven, working under the mentorship of Prof. Peter Carmeliet from October 2007 to June 2013. Her research during this time was centered on the connections between angiogenesis, metabolism, and disease development. In September 2014, she accepted an assistant professorship at the University of Leuven and subsequently moved to Madrid for intensive research. In October 2015, she took up her current professorship at ETH Zurich, where she leads the Laboratory of Exercise Health, focusing on the metabolic communication of endothelial cells and their role in organ homeostasis. Currently, her courses include Laboratory Course in Molecular Biology and Exercise Physiology II: Molecular Cellular Biology of Skeletal Muscle.
