Heather joined the faculty of chemistry at Vancouver Island University in the fall of 2020. Prior to this, she was a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Edinburgh, where she studied quantum phase changes of hydrogen under extreme high pressure. Her area of expertise lies in computational chemistry modeling, with a particular focus on the response of complex systems to applied pressure. Heather is particularly interested in studying the effects of pressure on biological systems, specifically proteins and lipid membranes, and how these systems adapt to the high pressure environments inhabited by deep-sea organisms. Currently, she teaches undergraduate chemistry courses, including Physical Chemistry (CHEM 241) and other introductory chemistry courses (CHEM 141/142).
