Biography

Shakti Chandra is a Professor Emerita at the Memorial University of Newfoundland, specializing in anatomy education. With an MBBS degree from New Delhi, she has been dedicated to teaching medical students and residents since 1974. Blending passion with innovation, she has developed an extensive Anatomy Outreach Program aimed at educating the general public about human anatomy. Her commitment to educational excellence is reflected in her multiple teaching awards, including Teacher of the Year in 1996 and 2011, and an Excellence in Teaching award in 2013. Chandra has also been involved in plastination, spending sabbaticals on the preservation of anatomical specimens which have greatly enriched the teaching resources for the Faculty of Medicine. Her work at Dr. von Hagen’s Plastinarium in Germany enabled her to return with valuable specimens that continue to serve both her students and the wider academic community. To further disseminate knowledge, she has produced over 25 educational videos from 2013 to 2016, employing high-definition filming techniques to create engaging content for both medical students and lay audiences. Her YouTube channel features series on essential anatomy topics, making complex subjects accessible to a broader audience. Through her efforts, Chandra remains a prominent figure in anatomy education, aiming to inspire future healthcare professionals while sharing the marvels of the human body with the public.
