Biography

Matthias Schemmel is a Professor for Historical Epistemology at the University of Hamburg and serves as the Deputy Director of the Institute for Liberal Arts and Sciences. His academic journey includes significant positions such as a Senior Researcher at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in Berlin and leading the Historical Epistemology group at Humboldt University. He holds a PhD in History from Humboldt University and a Diplom in Physics from the University of Hamburg. Schemmel's research interests span multiple domains including the history of modern physics and astronomy, the epistemic history of the early modern period, and the political epistemology of knowledge production.
