Biography

Pierre-Luc Déziel is a full professor at the Faculty of Law and holds the Canada Research Chair on the Protection and Valorisation of Health Data. He obtained a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Economics from McGill University, and a dual Master's in Political Theory and History and International Security from Sciences Po Paris. He completed his doctorate in Law at the Université de Montréal in 2015. His work focuses primarily on the impact of new technologies on privacy rights and data protection. Déziel is also involved in public initiatives aimed at protecting privacy and regulating new technologies, particularly in the health sector. He leads the research axis on ethics, confidentiality, and social acceptability at the Institute of Intelligence and Data since 2020. He has published extensively on privacy law and its implications in the digital age, including the book 'The Protection of Personal Health Information in the Era of Biosecurity'.
