David MaGee is a Professor at the University of New Brunswick, deeply engaged in the field of organic chemistry. His research primarily focuses on developing new and simpler methods for the synthesis of biologically significant and structurally complex natural products. He has successfully completed total syntheses of various compounds including (-)-cryptosporiopsin, which is recognized for its antifungal and antibiotic properties, as well as epi-resiwigin, calicogorgin C, and manzamine C, known for their anti-malarial, antibiotic, and anti-cancer effects. Currently, his group is investigating naturally occurring compounds such as (-)-reiswigin, which is noted for its anti-herpes activity, and manzamines B, which show promise in anti-cancer and anti-malarial applications.
