Biography

Zsuzsa Szabo-Nyarady is a multidisciplinary educator teaching Russian language courses in the Department of Culture and Media Studies at the University of New Brunswick (UNB). She has developed and taught courses that integrate culture and dance, leveraging her extensive academic training in Russian language and literature, as well as her background in Fine Arts and dance. Fluent in Russian from a young age, Zsuzsa's academic research focuses on the stylistics of Russian literature, particularly the early works of Anton Chekhov and their translations into English and Hungarian. As an educator, she employs various participatory techniques to enhance the learning experience, aiming to provide students with a solid foundation in the Russian language. Her teaching methods incorporate music, puppetry, and games to make complex grammar more accessible. Furthermore, her classes emphasize the connection between language and culture, culminating in a term-end Russian class party featuring cultural presentations and authentic food. Zsuzsa also teaches dance history and theory, blending these elements with practical dance experiences for students of all backgrounds. She actively participates in conferences to stay current with innovative teaching methodologies and enjoys sharing her knowledge to help students succeed.
