Biography

Becker is a Professor at Lund University, specializing in Risk Sustainability within the Division for Risk Management and Societal Safety. With an interdisciplinary background, Becker holds PhDs in Sociology and Engineering, complemented by a Master’s degree in Politics, a Master’s in Development Studies, and a Bachelor’s in Fire Safety Engineering. His research is centered on systemic interactions between the physical environment and social organization, emphasizing governance and risk vulnerability. Becker leads significant research initiatives yielding impact on national and global policies, particularly in disaster risk management and climate change adaptation. He has developed curriculum and pedagogical courses, including a Master of Disaster Management in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen, and regularly teaches on topics such as Societal Resilience and Disaster Risk Management. Becker has practical experience in humanitarian assistance and disaster management, having worked with numerous international organizations, including the Red Cross and UNICEF. His extensive outreach efforts bridge academia and societal practice, contributing to public discourse on risk sustainability through various media engagements.
