Biography

Dr. Stefanie Colombo is an Associate Professor and Canada Research Chair specializing in Aquaculture Nutrition at Dalhousie University. Her research focuses on discovering novel solutions to improve nutrition in aquaculture, enhancing the nutritional quality of farmed seafood, and contributing to healthier, environmentally sustainable, and economically viable seafood production. With a background in Marine & Freshwater Biology, her educational journey includes a B.Sc. from the University of Guelph, an M.Sc. from Dalhousie University, and a Ph.D. from Memorial University of Newfoundland. Dr. Colombo's particular interest lies in understanding the mechanisms of fatty acid biosynthesis in fish to optimize tissue storage of essential fatty acids, which are crucial for both fish health and human consumption. In her teaching role, she engages students through courses such as NUTR 3002: Fish Nutrition, while her ongoing research tackles critical topics including the impact of climate change on nutrient availability and metabolism within aquaculture ecosystems.
