Vania Prado is a Professor at Western University in the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology. Her academic journey began with a degree in dentistry from the University of Itauna, Brazil, followed by a master's in Biochemistry and a Ph.D. from the Federal University of Minas Gerais. She completed a post-doctoral fellowship at McGill University, where her work focused on molecular biology and the Y chromosome. Dr. Prado's research aims to unravel the mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, utilizing mouse models to explore genetic modifications and their impact on behavior and neurological functions. She has developed innovative techniques to study neuronal communication and has published extensively on the cholinergic system and its role in modulating brain function. Vania is dedicated to advancing the understanding of brain disorders through her research and as an educator, teaching various courses on neuroscience and neuropharmacology. She enjoys mentoring students and witnessing their development into successful scientists, emphasizing the importance of passion in their academic pursuits.
