Daniel Cockayne is an Associate Professor in the Geography and Environmental Management Department at the University of Waterloo. He is a feminist economic geographer whose research interests lie at the intersection of workplace culture and startups, particularly focusing on aspects such as entrepreneurship, digital media, equity finance, and the role of gender and sexuality in work environments. Daniel examines how neoliberalism affects workplace dynamics through feminist cultural lenses, employing a critical approach in economic geography. His current research explores the entrepreneurial culture within Silicon Valley and investigates how LGBTQ activism and political economy intersect with labor movements and workplace inclusion initiatives. His work draws theoretical insights from social theory, feminist theory, and queer affect theory, influenced by philosophers like Gilles Deleuze. In addition to teaching undergraduate courses like GEOG100 and GEOG411, Daniel is actively seeking graduate students for supervision at the MA and PhD levels and encourages prospective students to reach out via email with a CV and writing samples.
