Biography

Said Kourrich is a full professor at the Department of Biological Sciences at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), where he has been a faculty member since 2018. He previously served as a professor in psychiatry at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center from 2013 to 2018. Before this, he held the position of staff scientist at the National Institutes of Health/Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, focusing on research related to drug abuse from 2010 to 2013. Kourrich's academic path also includes a period as an assistant research professor at the University of Minnesota from 2008 to 2010 and multiple postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Minnesota and Concordia University. He earned his doctorate in Neuroscience from the Université de Provence in France, where he also received a Master's degree in Cell Biology and Physiology. His current research interests include the basic mechanisms regulating neuronal excitability and cognitive functions, specifically how psychostimulant drugs influence neuronal behavior and drug-seeking tendencies. He has been involved in various advanced biochemistry courses and seminars at UQAM, contributing to the development of future research in this field.
