Biography

Felipe Quintanilla is an Assistant Professor in Hispanic Studies at Western University. His research and teaching cover a wide range of topics and genres, including Salvadoran post-civil memory, oral history, gender and sexuality in contemporary Latin American cinema and literature, U.S. Latin@ representation in popular media, and Spanish-English translation. Born in Mexico City to a Mexican mother and a Salvadoran father, Quintanilla emigrated to Canada at the age of ten. He completed his Ph.D. in Hispanic Studies at Western University in 2012. His editorial work includes 'Indigenous Waterviews: Anthology Story, Song Protocol Water Ethics' and various creative works featured in print anthologies and online publications. His community engagement projects focus on honoring the victims of violence in the El Salvador armed conflict, aiming to expand knowledge of regional history and foster a commitment to non-repetition of political violence.
