Benjamin obtained his doctorate from McGill University and subsequently completed postdoctoral work at the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology (Eawag) and the University of São Paulo before joining the Department of Geography at the University of Montreal in 2024. He uses biogeochemical tools to reconstruct ecosystem responses to environmental changes in the past, primarily in Meso-America. His areas of expertise include biogeochemistry, paleoecology, climatic changes, and environmental geography.
