Max Cardilli is the Assistant Principal Bass of the National Arts Centre Orchestra, having joined in 2022. Prior to this, he was a member of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra from 2017 to 2022, where he performed and recorded with various orchestral ensembles and chamber groups. In 2017, he participated in the NAC Orchestra’s Institute for Orchestral Studies program, where he studied under Joel Quarrington. He earned his bachelor's degree in double bass performance from McGill University in 2015, having studied with Brian Robinson, Associate Principal Double Bass of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra. Originally from Montreal’s West Island, Max was introduced to the double bass at Lindsay Place High School and subsequently engaged in local youth orchestras. He spent summers training with the National Youth Orchestra of Canada and the National Academy Orchestra. In addition to his musical pursuits, Max enjoys skiing and cycling in the beautiful Gatineau Park.
