Janet's disciplinary background is psychology and she is currently Professor of Human Factors in the Department of Anaesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine. The aim of her research is to increase the quality and safety of care in all healthcare settings, drawing on human factors and psychological theories and methods. Human Factors is the scientific discipline that aims to optimise human well being and performance by focusing on systems thinking and design to support safe human activity. Most recently her research has focused on developing methods for applying Resilient Health Care/Safety II to quality improvement, and teamwork and communication. She has previously held academic posts at the University of Surrey, King's College London and City, University of London in the UK. Janet is the convenor of the Human Factors short course for healthcare professionals.
