Jaap Bellingwout is a professor of Tax Law at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and the head of the Notarial and Tax Law department. He is also a tax consultant at KPMG Meijburg & Co. in Amstelveen. His professional focus includes advising on taxation for publicly listed international companies, and he has played a significant role in tax reforms in Aruba, advising the Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs. Bellingwout has contributed to discussions on harmful tax competition with the OECD and the EU. He is a member of the Corporate Law Commission since March 2015, providing legislative advice to the Dutch government and parliament. His Ph.D. research was on the topic of 'Relocation of Legal Entities,' and his inaugural lecture addressed exit taxes following the De Lasteyrie case. His research primarily explores the intersection of tax law and corporate law.
