Dr. Jennifer Clary Lemon

Biography

Jennifer Clary-Lemon is a Professor and Associate Chair of Graduate Studies at the University of Waterloo. She completed her BA in Political Science at the University of Arizona, her MA in English (Writing, Rhetoric, Discourse) at DePaul University, and her PhD in English (Rhetoric, Composition, Linguistics) at Arizona State University. Since joining the University of Waterloo in August 2018, she has taught a diverse range of courses while directing writing studies and engaging deeply in research about Rhetoric and Writing Studies. Her scholarly interests include critical discourse analysis, the theory and practice of writing centers, and place-based methodologies in academic disciplines. Clary-Lemon has published extensively in her field, including works focusing on new material rhetorics and the intersection of rhetoric with environmental issues. Her commitment to teaching is strongly influenced by her understanding of how geographic and personal locations affect rhetorical choices and agency in writing.
