Biography

Florian Hoefner is a Juno Award-winning pianist and composer based in St. John’s, Newfoundland. He has forged a unique voice in modern jazz, influenced by a broad range of styles and traditions. Praised for his insightful resolve as a composer and bandleader, as well as his harmonically daring piano playing, Hoefner has made significant contributions to both performance and composition within contemporary jazz. His recent album, Desert Bloom, was released in 2022 and won the Juno Award for Jazz Album of the Year: Group, further solidifying his reputation in the field. Hoefner has also been involved in noteworthy collaborations and has performed alongside many esteemed artists. His career includes a series of acclaimed albums and a rich history of performance, demonstrating his versatility and depth as a musician in the jazz genre. Additionally, he is dedicated to education, currently serving as an Assistant Professor of Jazz Studies at Memorial University of Newfoundland, where he continues to shape the next generation of jazz musicians. His educational background includes a Bachelor and Master of Music in Jazz from renowned institutions in Berlin and New York City.
