Benedetto Lepori holds a PhD in Communication Sciences with a thesis on Swiss research and higher education policy from the University of Lugano. Currently, he is a titular professor at the Università della Svizzera italiana and a senior researcher at the University of Paris Est, as well as an invited researcher at the Department of Management of the University of Bath. He has extensive experience in the analysis of research policies, particularly in public research funding, and has coordinated projects such as PRIME on public project funding and the European Contract on Joint and Open Programs (JOREP). His research focuses on higher education governance and university management, as well as the development of S&T indicators. Lepori has published in various reputable journals, including Research Policy and Science and Public Policy, and has been involved in several European projects like KNOWMAK, which aims to develop a European Map of Science and Technology.
