Biography

Dr. Zahra Farahnak is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biochemistry at Memorial University. With an interdisciplinary training background in Nutrition, Public Health, and Exercise Physiology, she has expertise in both pre-clinical and clinical research. Dr. Farahnak's work primarily investigates the effects of nutrition and exercise on body composition, focusing on fat, muscle, and bone tissues in both pre-clinical and clinical settings. Her research aims to elucidate the underlying mechanisms of tissue crosstalk throughout various growth and aging stages, ultimately developing strategies to optimize body composition and improve health span through nutrition and exercise interventions. Dr. Farahnak has a comprehensive educational background that includes a PhD in Physical Activity Science from the University of Montreal, along with postdoctoral fellowships at both the Montreal Heart Institute and McGill University. She is a member of various professional organizations, including the Canadian Nutrition Society and the American Society for Nutrition.
