Biography

Zac Robinson is an Associate Professor in the Department of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation at the University of Alberta. His academic focus lies primarily in the exploration of Canadian history with specific emphasis on cultural and social histories related to mountaineering, travel writing, and postcolonial critique. Robinson employs place-based historical methods in his research, investigating the impacts of historical narratives on contemporary understandings of the Canadian Rockies and the broader mountain culture. He has a strong background in interdisciplinary studies, bridging physical disciplines with cultural narratives to provide a comprehensive view of the mountain environment. Robinson has held various professional roles, including co-editing for the Alpine Club of Canada and serving as a governor for the Royal Canadian Geographical Society. His engagement with the academic community is reflected in numerous publications, including essays and books on mountaineering and historical perspectives in Canadian alpine culture.
