Biography

Jeri English is an Associate Professor in the Teaching Stream at the University of Toronto Scarborough specializing in French Women’s and Gender Studies. Her teaching and research interests encompass feminist literary and film cultural theories, contemporary French Hollywood cinema, and autobiography, with a focus on 20th and 21st century French women writers. She has published numerous articles and book chapters concerning notable writers and filmmakers such as Rachilde, Simone de Beauvoir, Camille Laurens, Céline Sciamma, François Ozon, Leos Carax, and Denis Villeneuve. In 2022, Jeri co-edited a collected edition of essays on Denis Villeneuve published by Edinburgh University Press. Currently, she is working on a research project that examines representations of the monstrous, abject, and uncanny in contemporary science fiction films.
