Alain Noël is a professor of Political Science at the Université de Montréal. His research focuses on social policies and federalism from a comparative perspective, largely addressing politics in Canada and Quebec. His latest book, 'La gauche et la droite: un débat sans frontières', co-authored with Jean-Philippe Thérien, was published in 2010 by the Presses de l’Université de Montréal. The English version, released by Cambridge University Press, received the 2009 Best Book Award in International Relations from the Canadian Political Science Association. From 2006 to 2013, he chaired the Centre for the Study of Poverty and Social Exclusion of the Government of Quebec. Previously, he served as vice-president of the Quebec Fund for Research on Society and Culture and was a member of the Fiscal Imbalance Commission. He has been a visiting professor at the Institute of Political Studies in Grenoble and Lyon, and at the School of Social Welfare at the University of California, Berkeley. In June 2013, he was elected president of the Canadian Political Science Association.
