Ciara Bracken-Roche is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Law at Maynooth University and an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Criminology at the University of Ottawa. Her current research project investigates the adoption and use of drone technologies in Canada and Ireland, particularly focusing on their application in policing and public safety agencies. This project aims to create new knowledge about the relationship between police use of technologies and existing legal, social, and technological norms of governance. Ciara completed her PhD at Queen's University under the supervision of Dr. David Lyon, and holds an MA from Warwick and a BSc from Toronto. She is a member of the Inter/national FOI Research Council at the Centre for Access to Information Justice at the University of Winnipeg and serves on the advisory board of a new publication called Study Up, which features critical, investigative research using freedom of information (FOI) and access to information (ATI) disclosures. She is also a long-standing member of the Surveillance Studies Network, the International Studies Association, and WIIS-Canada.
