Biography

Christine Dallaire studies sports from a sociocultural perspective with a particular focus on Canadian society and youth communities. Her current project compares the experiences of young adults aged 18 to 25 years involved in sports leadership roles within organizations like the Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa and the Jeux de l’Acadie Arctic Winter Games. She has developed expertise in the role of sports in the discursive construction of Francophone Canadian identities among youth across the country, notably within the Jeux francophones de l’Alberta, the Jeux de la francophonie canadienne, and the Jeux du Québec. Professor Dallaire is accepting students for thesis supervision in 2026. Her research interests include sports community engagement in Canada, Francophonie, and youth sports identity and representation. She is completing a large project titled “Giving Back Community,” which involves youth community engagement through leaders in sports initiatives and is funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council’s Sport Participation Research Initiative. Additionally, she co-leads an international collaboration based between the University of Ottawa, France, and Denmark that focuses on the Arctic Winter Games, addressing themes of youth, culture, and the Arctic environment.
