Dr. Huldrych Günthard

Biography

Huldrych Günthard is a Senior Physician at the University Hospital Zurich, specializing in Infectious Diseases and Hospital Epidemiology. His primary research interests include HIV infection and antiretroviral therapy, with a focus on the development of resistance to antiretroviral drugs, acute HIV infection, HIV latency and reservoirs, as well as transmission dynamics of HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases. He has authored numerous publications related to these topics and holds significant positions such as Vice Clinic Director and Head of the HIV laboratory at the University Hospital Zurich. Günthard has been instrumental in leading various clinical studies and serves on multiple boards related to infectious disease. He has contributed to refining treatment protocols for HIV and other viral infections, including SARS-CoV-2 and opportunistic infections. His career reflects extensive training, having completed fellowships and residency in internal medicine and infectious diseases, culminating in full professorship in Clinical Infectiology at the University of Zurich. Outside of his clinical duties, he is actively involved in shaping treatment guidelines and participating in international research networks, ensuring advancements in the management of infectious diseases.
