Biography

Stefan Balabanov is a Senior Physician and Vice Director of the Department of Medical Oncology and Hematology at the University Hospital Zurich (USZ). He specializes in myeloid neoplasms, including chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), and mastocytosis. Additionally, Dr. Balabanov focuses on lymphatic disorders such as Hodgkin's lymphoma and central nervous system (CNS) lymphoma, and his research emphasizes hematologic diagnostics. He has been influential in developing treatments and diagnostics in hematology since his appointment as titular professor at the Medical Faculty of the University of Zurich in 2020. Dr. Balabanov holds a FAMH Diploma in Laboratory Diagnostics, specializing in Hematology, awarded in 2019. His extensive experience includes leadership roles in hematology clinics and research within leading European medical centers. As a key member of both the Swiss Society of Hematology and the German Society for Internal Medicine, he actively contributes to advancements in hematological sciences through research and clinical practices.
