Ben Montet is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Physics at UNSW Sydney. His research focuses on detecting and characterizing planets around nearby stars and understanding stellar magnetic activity, including phenomena like starspots and flares. Utilizing data from space-based and ground-based facilities such as NASA's Kepler and TESS missions, he employs machine learning techniques to analyze large data sets. Montet leads the NEarby Worlds and Their Stars (NEWTS) research group, engaging students at varying levels of their academic careers and emphasizing research in exoplanets and stellar astrophysics. He offers guidance to undergraduate and postgraduate researchers, inviting them to discuss potential projects and collaborations.
