Haydn Washington is an adjunct lecturer at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) with a rich background as an environmental scientist, writer, and activist spanning over forty years. He holds a degree in ecology, a Master's in eco-toxicology focusing on heavy metal pollution, a Diploma of Education, and a Ph.D. in Social Ecology, awarded in 2007 for his work 'The Wilderness Knot'. His career includes significant positions such as working with CSIRO, directing the Nature Conservation Council of New South Wales, and serving as an environmental consultant as well as a Director of Sustainability in Local Government. Washington co-directs the New South Wales Chapter of the Center for the Advancement of a Steady State Economy. He is passionate about geodiversity, particularly the pagoda rock formations of the western Blue Mountains. Washington has authored several influential books on environmental issues, including ‘Demystifying Sustainability’ and ‘Ecoreciprocity: Giving Back to Nature’, and serves as lead editor for important academic texts in ecological economics. His expertise is underscored by research interests in environmental science, plant ecology, climate change denial, wilderness conservation, and sustainability.
