Biography

Christine Chojnacki holds the Gyan Kanchan Jain Chair of Jain Studies and is a professor in the Department for the Study of Religion at the University of Toronto Mississauga. Her academic focus encompasses Jainism, the history of Indian religions, and the literature associated with these traditions. Chojnacki's current research is dedicated to the preservation and translation of medieval Jain literature in Sanskrit and Prakrit, particularly in relation to the reconstruction of Indian knowledge systems. She has significantly contributed to the understanding of lesser-known literary genres and their roles in the culture and history of Jainism in India. Chojnacki has published extensively on Jain literary genres, including works that explore ritual eulogies, pilgrimage sites, and the biographies of monks. Her notable publications include 'Voix et échos du roman-poème en prakrit' and the translation of the 'Kuvalayamālā'. She encourages inquiries from prospective students interested in these areas of research.
