Biography

John Carr is an urban and legal geographer whose work focuses on the intersections of urban geography, law, planning, and human and non-human environments. His research bridges various disciplines to address complex questions, often employing community-based and participatory methodologies. With a PhD in Geography from the University of Washington, he also holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Texas School of Law. Before entering academia, he practiced law for over a decade in areas such as civil rights and complex litigation. His contributions to urban studies and legal geography have been recognized in various publications and book chapters, reflecting on contemporary issues in urban environments and legal contexts.
