I study how the behavior and incentives of economic agents, such as households, workers, and firms, interact with scarce environmental resources, such as climate, urban air, water, and land use. My ongoing projects relate to households’ awareness of the climate crisis, personal emissions accountability, and individual action. I am testing whether non-judgmental and private disclosure of emissions to individuals, in their roles as consumers and workers, can shape environmental preferences and widen citizen support for climate investments. The gap in public understanding and engagement is the mother of all gaps when it comes to solving the climate crisis. I am interested in education campaigns across different consumption domains such as protein food, private car travel, public transport, air travel, residential utilities, and land use & forestry change. As an environmental economist and behavioral social scientist, I collaborate across disciplines, including atmospheric sciences, food science & technology, environmental health, consumer psychology, marketing, transport engineering, and strategic communication. My work focuses on Asia’s under-studied and globally critical environment and society. I increasingly try to leave the ivory tower and do environmental advocacy work with partners in industry, civil society, and government. At NUS, I serve on the University Sustainability and Climate Action Council since 2022, and hold a Dean's Chair award (2022-2028) and serve on a Faculty Tenure and Promotion Committee.
