Dr. Jessica Bastiaansen

Assistant Professor

Biography

Jessica Bastiaansen is an Assistant Professor (SNSF Eccellenza Fellow) at the University of Bern, hosted by the Department of Diagnostic, Interventional and Pediatric Radiology. Her research focuses on developing innovative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) approaches to disentangle multi-compartment signal sources, which supports unbiased noninvasive quantification of disease biomarkers, thereby enhancing disease diagnosis and therapy. She has secured approximately 3.7 million CHF in research funding as the principal investigator and has extensive experience operating imaging systems at various magnetic fields, including preclinical (3T, 9.4T, 11.7T, and 14T) and clinical (1.5T, 3T, and 7T) levels across multiple international research facilities. Jessica has received degrees and scholarships from prestigious institutions including the California Institute of Technology, Eindhoven University of Technology, and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne. In 2019, she was recognized as a Junior Fellow by the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine for her exceptional research quality and contributions to the field. As a member of the Annual Meeting Program Committee of the ISMRM, she is also involved in co-organizing the society's annual scientific meetings.
