Dr. Stavroula Mougiakakou

Biography

Stavroula G. Mougiakakou is an Associate Professor with a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens. She has been associated with the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Bern since 2008, leading the AI in Health and Nutrition laboratory at the ARTORG Center for Biomedical Engineering Research. Her multidisciplinary research focuses on artificial intelligence, machine learning, and computer vision, specifically their applications in health and nutrition. She has authored over 130 publications in respected scientific journals, book chapters, and conference proceedings, holding editorial positions in several high-ranking journals. Additionally, she organized the international workshop on multimedia assisted dietary assessment (MADiMa). Dr. Mougiakakou has supervised more than 22 Ph.D. and MSc students and belongs to numerous professional societies, including the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society and the Association for Computing Machinery. Recently, she has successfully coordinated several EC-funded research projects while participating in numerous national and international R&D initiatives.
