Biography

Paul Claes has been working as an Assistant Professor at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam since January 1, 1999. His responsibilities extend to both teaching and research, particularly focusing on Value-based Management. He has presented his research on various occasions to Dutch companies and international audiences in cities like Munich, Milan, Prague, Nice, and Seville. Claes' dissertation, defended in 2008, analyzed the design and use of Value-based Management Control Systems, exploring how companies manage for value and the adaptations needed in their management control systems to increase economic value. His research examines metrics used in value management, implementation strategies, and effects on organizational behavior and performance. Other research interests include management control systems in Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, the impact of various funding methods on performance management, and the role of controllers in organizations. He teaches several courses, including Accounting I and II, Performance Management, and Management Control in both Bachelor's and Master's programs.
